As a member of the SEALs Mike had served his country with distinction. While still at Basic Underwater Demolition School/SEAL Training (BUD/S), he was presented with the "Honor Man" award, given to the class's top achiever in academics and physical field performance overall. He was also given the "Fire in the Gut" award, an honor for exemplary effort voted by his teammates, the first time in history that both awards went to the same sailor. "I think that's the best honor I'll ever receive," he noted later, "because it came from the guys I went through hell with for 6 months in BUD/S Training. That meant a lot to me." Many of those former classmates now use his gear in operations around the globe.

We started twenty-five years ago in a small rented building making remanufactured ammunition for local cops and a few dealers. I was a young cop too ignorant and inexperienced in business to know how badly the odds were against us, and too stubborn to accept the possibility of failure.

We did have a few things going for us. I had the full support of my wife Kristi, who is now my sole business partner. She believed we could do it. Our parents backed us by sharing business experience and by being a model of what is possible with hard work. They supported our ideas and even took a risk financially to guarantee a small loan to start with since we had already been laughed out of every bank in town. Our commitment to developing a more accurate full bore slug lead us to a unique sabot pressure wad which helped us finalize the Laser Accurate Sabot Slugs we offer today. The patented sabot pressure wad (SPW) design that is incorporated in all of our ammunition differs in design and action from all other products. This SPW is a wad of extraordinary capabilities. It not only stays with the slug down range, but prevents flyers as well. It boosts bullet coefficient to .110 - that's the highest in the industry - because of its extended full length in flight. On the receiving end of its flight the SPW is released as the lead slug expands and drives through the deer.

In December, 1980, the company's board of directors authorized the restructuring of the Winchester Group to allow Olin to better focus more of the company's resources on Winchester's sporting and defense ammunition business. My name is Alan Goldman. I have been associated with G96 for over 35 years, serving as Research Chemist, Technical Director, Vice President, and General Manager in charge of Production.

As the demand for Berger Bullets grew Walt recognized that technology had advanced to the point where the hand presses used to seat and point bullets could be automated while still maintaining the ability to sense pressure and reject bullets that were outside of our tolerance. This decision to make our first automated bullet machine resulted in the realization that an automated process that is properly designed, built and monitored can produce bullets that are more consistent than a person operating a hand press. Walt had again evolved our process to produce more consistent bullets.

Today, Berger Bullets operates several custom built machines that monitor pressure and reject bullets that are outside of required tolerances. These machines are more consistent than a hand press operation by using presses that provide accurately repeatable travel and speed. When combined with the highest-grade materials available we create a bullet that achieves the ultimate in consistency from box to box within a lot. Compare the results of this process to the mass produced bullets and you will find the reason why their bullets need to be sorted by accuracy minded shooters while Bergers do not.

Swift

Back in 1982, Swift started out making handgun bullets in Quinter, Kansas, using C&H dies in a loading press. The rifle bullets were made from 22 rimfire hulls with Corbin tools. About two years later, Swift began production on a new rifle bullet for large game and invested in more equipment. Further testing and bullet refinement led to what was to become known as the A-Frame®, with a copper-jacketed and bonded core design. The A-Frame® bullet became a commercial offering in 1984, when Swift placed a small ad in Shotgun News to begin selling bullets through the mail. As sales grew, a punch press was purchased and production was born.

The Magic of Holography
In holography, all the information required to reconstruct the reticle image is recorded everywhere in the Heads-Up display window. If the window is obstructed by mud, snow, rain, etc., the HWS remains fully operational , with point of aim/impact being maintained. Even in such extreme cases where the laminated window is shattered, the HWS is fully functional! As long as the operator can see through any portion of the window, the entire reticle pattern is visible on target...the operator can still engage with confidence.
