All Star, Most Valuable, Franchise Player, Honest, Professional, Precise, Exacting, Caring, are all words which could be used to describe Matt Schultz. He is easily one of the best kept secrets in Michigan when it pertains to the firearm industry, be it customer service, general knowledge, or firearm training. Possessing over 17 years of experience working at Schupbach’s Sporting Goods, Matt can handle any situation that comes his way not only with ease but with a level of expertise usually only attained by someone of a much greater age. With such prowess Matt has now assumed control of most critical endeavors such as ATF Compliance, NFA Sales, Gun Broker listings and sales, and general managing duties.
Matt is also known for being an extremely competent shooter and one of the finest instructors in Michigan and beyond. Until the program was shut down by Larry Vickers (21 year career SF Operator) of Vickers Tactical (link to Vickers Tactical here) Matt served as a Vickers Shooting Method (VSM) Instructor and was one of only eight people in the world endorsed to do so. His ego free approach to training and his ability to relate to the student is not only refreshing but can be unfortunately rare in this world. Matt is still recommended by Larry Vickers and is mentioned immediately whenever training opportunities in Michigan are brought up to him. Larry has issued an official quote about Matt and his confidence in him as an instructor, it reads like this…
”Matt Schultz has a firm grasp on the fundamentals of handgun and carbine marksmanship. He can be counted upon as an instructor to relay the key points of using your weapon effectively.”
-Larry A Vickers
Although a relatively new addition to the Schupbach’s team, Joe Burden brings with him great knowledge of defensive pistol and defensive rifle fundamentals. Trained by Matt Schultz and Larry Vickers of Vickers Tactical, Joe has a firm grasp of what you need to make sure you are always prepared. He has been teaching CPL Classes at Schupbach’s for two years now with great results. Joe is also the owner of Fundamental Solutions, LLC which offers Basic Pistol and Basic Carbine classes beyond CPL. Joe is licensed and insured by the NRA and is also a Life Member. If you’re interested in purchasing a new defensive firearm or gear please stop in and see Joe and he will get you on the path to taking responsibility for your own personal protection and the protection of your loved ones.
When asked about his approach to training and why he teaches classes, Joe had this to say…
“There are no shortcuts or gimmicks that will get you through and unfortunately there is lots of bad information out there and I refuse to teach what is known as “Entertrainment”. Focus on the fundamentals and take classes from quality instructors then practice, practice, practice! Why do I teach classes? That’s an easy one, the same reason I work at Schupbach’s Sporting Goods, because I want to help good people!”
No doubt Schupbach’s Sporting Goods has earned a stellar reputation for their archery department, with people travelling hours from out of state to have their bows or crossbows set up or worked on. Over the years he has worked on just about everything and seen it all and then some! He will go through your gun thoroughly and expertly as many satisfied customers will tell you.
